English for Life in the UK

English for Life in the UK is what we call our ESOL course. ESOL stands for English for Speakers of other Languages. You may have just arrived in the UK to start a new job or you may have lived here for the past fifty years. Whatever your age or background, if you need help with English to improve your opportunities in the UK – we want to help you!

Gaining an ESOL qualification demonstrates that you have good speaking, writing, listening and reading skills in English. Not only will it help improve your social interactions and everyday life – it’s also a great way to show employers your language skills and add to your CV.
You should always choose a course which is accredited by a Government approved exam board and, ideally, is held at an accredited college.

There are courses at different levels. This means you can start at a level which suits your current English skills, even if you can only tell us your name!

If you are applying to be a British Citizen, you can take a combined ESOL and citizenship course to prepare you for the ‘Life in the UK’ test.

Functional Skills test Level 2
One of the most popular exams to take at the end of your course is the Functional Skills test Level 2. The purpose of the Functional Skills English Level 2 qualification is to prepare you for work, study and life. Learners who achieve this qualification will demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English. Learners will be able to apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in real life situations.
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is suitable for learners studying the following:
• Apprenticeships
• Traineeships
• Study Programme
• Alternative to GCSE
