How to make the most of Birmingham this Winter

We have had an unusually mild autumn in the UK this year, but as of this week, the temperatures are dropping and we are all starting to feel winter coming. You may be wondering how you are going to entertain yourself during these dark and cold days. Luckily, in Birmingham there’s no shortage of things to do in the winter months. Read on for some ideas of how to make the most of this time of year and beat those winter blues!

Did you know that Birmingham has the largest Christmas Market outside of Germany or Austria? Every year from the beginning of November, the city centre is transformed into an authentic German market with stalls selling food, drink and a range of gifts. Enjoy a pretzel and some gluhwein, or pick up some handcrafted decorations for your Christmas tree. After you have had your fill at the market, head on over to Centenary Square for a ride on the big wheel or go ice skating -  both open every day until 8th January (except for Christmas Day). For a truly enchanting winter experience, take a trip to the Botanical Gardens after dark and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the winter light trail Luminate Birmingham.

Finding the wind and rain a bit much at the moment? It’s the perfect time of year to make the most of the many indoor activities Birmingham has to offer. Get a group of friends together for an escape room at Escape Live: themes include Peaky Blinders, Sherlock Holmes, and time travel. If you’re wanting to stay active, there are plenty of places to go bowlingmini golfkarting or laser tag, to name just a few activities. Just want a warm, cosy place to meet up with friends? Head to a pub such as The Old Joint Stock or The Old Crown for some drinks, or to Chinatown for some hot pot to warm you up!
