These days it is very easy to book an airport transfer! It is almost always cheaper to book the transfer directly yourself than through a third party. We have put together some options below for you!

You have more than one option for this service. There are different companies (and different fares) you can choose from. As for the aeroplane ticket, if you book them before your arrival in the UK is going to be cheaper. You could even benefit from special offers.

For the public transportation in London the main card used is the Oyster card. You can buy it in every tube or railway stations, and it costs £5. You can top it up as a Pay as you go card (you can choose the amount, starting from £5) and you pay for the ticket with the regular fares.
The ticket fare starts from £2.90 per ride.

You can also use it as a travel card, and you can pay weekly, monthly, or yearly fares. The cost of the Travelcard depends on the Zone you are travelling through (our London Campus is in Zone 4).

Children under 11 travel free on the Underground, DLR and buses. Between 11 and 15 years and with an Oyster 11-15 Photocard they travel free on the buses.

Children Travelcards are half the price of the adult rates shown above. Children need an Oyster 11-15 Photocard to obtain these child rates. Children under 11 free on buses, Underground, DLR and Overground.

Those aged 16 or 17 can apply for an Oyster 16+ Photocard to obtain these child rates on7 Day, 1 Month and Annual Travelcards.

BUS
You can use the Oyster card for the bus too. For your information, the bus tickets are cheaper than the tube ones.
Usually from Zone 1 to 2 is around £1.50 per ride.
We recommend using the Oyster card just in case you need to take different public transportation. Otherwise, you can pay with your debit/credit card contactless.

UBER
Uber is a good alternative. The fares are cheaper, and you can also have discounts quite frequently (they usually are between the 25% and the 50%). Same for Bolt.
To use Uber, you can download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

There is a minimum fare of £3.20 at all times.

All taxis must have a working fixed card payment device in the passenger compartment and accept payment by contactless card. There is no extra charge when paying by credit or debit card.

Official London Bikes (Santander)

To hire a Santander Cycle simply download our app or go to any docking station terminal with your debit/credit card and touch the screen. The cost is £2 for unlimited journeys up to 30 minutes, within 24 hours period. For periods longer than 30 minutes, you pay £2 for each additional 30 minutes.

Catching the train is the quickest way to Cambridge from London with hourly services from London Kings Cross or London Liverpool Street into Cambridge Station.

Train services are operated by Great Northern and take just about an hour to reach London.

The National Express operates coaches from London to Cambridge. Tickets typically cost between £6 and £22 each way.

The quickest way to get from London to Oxford is to train which costs £24-£30 and takes 53 minutes.

There is a direct bus departing from Victoria Station Oxford Tube station and arriving at Oxford City Centre. The buses depart every 30 minutes and operate every day.

The journey takes approximately 1h43min. The fares are between £13 and £18. Stagecoach.

The cheapest way to get from London to Brighton is to bus (National Express). It costs £6-£8 and it takes 2h50min.

The fastest way is to train (Southern Railway): there is a direct train departing from London Victoria every 15 minutes, and the journey takes 58min. The cost of the ticket is £15-£45.

Manchester

  • There are several transfer options to reach central Manchester:
  • A taxi takes around 30 minutes and costs £30. Taxi ranks can be found near the exit of each terminal.
  • The airport shuttle bus takes around 25 minutes and costs £5. The buses depart from Manchester Airport Train Station, which is easy to reach from each terminal.
  • The 24/7 Skyline bus takes around 50 minutes and costs £3. The buses depart from Manchester Airport Train Station.
  • A train takes around 30 minutes and costs £5.
  • The Metrolink tram takes around 25 minutes and costs £5. The tram stop can be found in the Manchester Airport Train Station.

Train

Manchester has two main train stations: Piccadilly and Victoria. There are also other smaller sta-tions within the city centre, including Manchester Oxford Road, which is just a ten-minute walk away from both the Oxford Road and Sackville Street areas of the campus.
There are numerous bus links between stations, some of which are free.

Manchester has an extensive bus network with many routes terminating at Piccadilly Gardens bus station.

The System One AnyBus ticket costs £6 and is good for one day unlimited travel on most buses within Manchester.

There are other options: the Arriva Day Saver ticket (£4.70) for travel on Arriva buses, the FirstDay ticket (£5) for travel on First buses and the Stagecoach Manchester Dayrider (£5) for travel on Stagecoach buses.

There is also a network of three free bus routes that run through Manchester city centre. The three free bus routes (formerly known as the Metroshuttle bus routes https://tfgm.com/public-transport/bus/metroshuttle) are the most useful bus routes for most visitors to Manchester as they cover most points of interest in the city centre.

TRAM
The Metrolink tram network provides good coverage in the city centre and extends out to some suburbs. The cheapest single ticket for a bus or tram ride costs £1.50. A 1-day System One Card for the use of any bus and tram costs £5.

Mobike is the name of Manchester’s bike-hiring system. To hire a bike, you download the app and pay a deposit of £49. The price for using a bike is 50p per 30 minutes.

The Manchester to London train travel time is normally about 2 hours. The company is Avanti Train. Starting from £19.

The quickest way to get from Manchester to Liverpool is to catch a taxi, which costs £75-£95 and takes about 40 minutes.
By bus the journey takes approximately 1h 30 min from Manchester Picadilly station .
There is a train departing from Manchester Oxford Road and arriving at Liverpool Lime Street. Services depart every 15 minutes, and operate every day. The journey takes approximately 51 min. From £3.50.

This journey in a taxi in normal traffic conditions should take about 1 hour and the costs is about £68.

The Megabus sets off from Bus Station Stand A/B/C and drops you off at Kirgate. The cost is from £7.50.

Birmingham

There are plenty of trains running each hour during the day, with services from Virgin Trains, Arriva, National Rail and Cross Country.

To get from Birmingham Airport to the City Centre, it’s a 10-15 minute journey from Birmingham International rail station to Birmingham New Street station. National Express. The National Express from the airport to Birmingham Coach Station takes just 25 minutes, with fares costing around £4.10.

Malta

Malta’s only airport – Malta International Airport – is located in Luqa, in the south of the island.
It takes approximately 50 minutes by bus and 25 minutes by taxi to get to St Julian’s, Malta’s tourist and social centre. English Path is also located here

By Bus

Routes X1, X2, X3 and X4 depart from the airport. You will then have to change to another bus route to get to your desired location. Bus tickets cost 1,50 € in winter (16th October to 14th of June) and 2,00 € in summer (15th June to 15th October). You can find the exact airport routes here:

The Malta Public Transport System is called Tallinja. Tallinja only operates buses because Malta does not have a tram or underground system. However, the buses connect all Maltese towns and villages and it is easy to get around the island.

Tickets can be bought with the bus driver and are always valid for 2 hours for an unlimited number of bus rides. However, there are different fares for summer and winter months.
For long-term students, we recommend applying for a Tallinja bus card to profit from cheaper fares. You need to apply for the Tallinja bus card online. A 15,00 € registration fee applies. You can then choose the amount of money you want to top up your card with.

An alternative to buses are providers which offer mopeds or electric scooters to rent. You need to download the company’s app, put in your bank details, and upload a photo of your driving license (for moped rent only) before you can activate a moped or electric scooter. Both mopeds and electric scooters can be found on the street – you simply need to scan the QR code attached to the vehicle to activate your ride. Please make sure you feel confident to ride the vehicles, as we drive on the left side in Malta! The fares vary from provider to provider but are usually calculated by the minute. When you finish your ride, make sure to de-activate the moped or electric scooter again.
There are also ferry services from Sliema to Valletta and from Valletta to Cospicua.

Since Malta is an island, you will most likely see the whole country while you are here. Travelling to another place usually means going abroad.

Malta has a very well-connected airport with flights to around 125 destinations in 43 countries, including major European cities or Dubai.
Air Malta is the official Maltese airline, but there are plenty of other airlines flying to and from Malta. You can check out the flight schedule on Malta airport’s website here:
Malta Airport - arrivals & departures
The most popular destination when in Malta is Sicily, which is only about 200 km away. You can either take a 40-minute flight with tickets starting at as little as 9 € (one way) or hop on a ferry and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea on a 2.5-hour boat ride. Ticket prices start at 30,00 €.

Dubai

There are several options to reach Dubai city center from the airport:

  • It takes 24 minutes via metro, and it costs from AED 4 ($1.09) to AED 8.50 ($2.31).
  • The bus takes approximately 1.15 hr and it costs AED 5 ($1.36)
  • The taxi takes between 13 and 15 minutes. You have to pay a AED 25 ($ 6.81) fee for getting into a taxi from the airport, and AED 1.96 ($0.53) for each kilometre. The ride in total will be approximately AED 53 ($14.43).
TRAVEL CARD
NOL Card is a kind of prepaid smart cards introduced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It’s necessary to buy one because cash payments are not accepted in Metro, buses, and water buses.
The Silver Card and Red Ticket are the most suitable options for visitors.
The Silver Card costs AED 25 ($6.81). This card allows you to enjoy the rides on all modes of transport.
The Red Ticket is available at any ticket vending machine at a very cheap price – AED 2 ($0.54), but you have to buy different Red tickets to use on different vehicles.
METRO
Riding metro is a fast, convenient and affordable way to get to central Dubai. The metro has 2 lines Red line and Green Line.
WATER BUS
Dubai Water Bus is also a boat service but using bigger sized and air-conditioned vehicles.
A water bus ride is also a great chance for sightseers to take in great views and sights on both sides of the creek. One-way trip costs just AED 2 ($0.54); round trip costs AED 4 ($1.09).
BUS
Dubai’s public bus network is extensive, and all the vehicles are new, modern, and clean.
Bus fares vary, depending on the count of zones. It can cost from AED 1-4 ($0.27-1.09) for an in-town trip.
