Our EP campuses provide the ideal place to explore some of the world’s best destinations, with top-class facilities and support to take your language skills to the next level. All our EP students have access to a great social activity programme, with at least 2 fun-packed activities each day and a special excursion at the weekend.
Our EP Toronto students certainly picked the best time to visit Niagara Falls on Sat 5 August. They all had a lot of fun, made memories for life and explored one of the world’s most famous attractions! The tour started off with exploring Niagara-on-the-Lake, followed by some free time to take the Niagara boat cruise and even more thrills at Clifton Hill.
The history of Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a waterfall on the Niagara River in North America, between Ontario, Canada, and the state of New York in the United States. This attraction is world-famous for its natural beauty, which has made it a top destination for people from across the globe. Niagara Falls is also a really popular destination for students with a wide range of things to see, do and learn about. There are many activities to enjoy, and they can all help you to learn more about new people, places and things — for the most memorable learning experiences.
Niagara Falls has a long and unique history. It was formed more than 12,000 years ago when huge amounts of water from melting ice went into the Niagara River. The water that fell over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment broke down the layers of rock, leading to Niagara Falls as we know it today. The changes never stop as the Niagara River freezes, which then melts to create a slightly new look each year.
Niagara Falls was discovered by the French explorer, Father Louis Hennepin in 1678 — but it’s more likely that it was home to Native Americans before that discovery. The City of Niagara also has an interesting history in waterpower. The famous Nikola Tesla used the Niagara River back in 1896 to create new power for homes and businesses in the area. The forward-thinking of Tesla was the beginning of the huge power plants on both sides of the Falls — which create nearly 2.5 million kilowatts of electricity.
Things to see and do at Niagara Falls
There are many places to visit in Niagara Falls, including the stunning Niagara Falls State Park — which is open to the public every day of the year. If you don’t mind getting a bit wet, then going on the Maid of the Mist is a great way to see and feel the power of Niagara Falls. Going up to the Hurricane Deck on Cave of the Winds provides an even better view, with the unique experience of walking through the Bridal Veil Falls.
With so many other activities open throughout the year, there’s no need to think of the best time to visit Niagara Falls. A hike of the Niagara Gorge, high-speed jet boat rides, helicopter tours over Niagara Falls and cruises on the Erie Canal are just some of the cool activities to look forward to!
Niagara Falls is known for being one of the world’s best destinations to visit, and our EP Toronto students certainly enjoyed a wonderful time. With many places to visit in Niagara Falls, we’re sure that they can’t wait to go back to make more new memories and find out more about what makes this place so special.
