Course Overview

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP+UG) 12 Weeks course is designed for secondary school graduates and future undergraduate students who need to boost their academic English and study skills before starting a university degree. This program equips you with the essential language proficiency (aiming for at least IELTS 6.5 or equivalent) and academic strategies required to succeed in an English-speaking undergraduate environment. It not only improves your English across reading, writing, listening, and speaking, but also helps you transition to university-level learning by teaching you how to take responsibility for your own studies and master effective study techniques. You’ll learn how to structure and write academic essays and reports, and how to actively participate in academic activities and discussions.
Each day of the EAP+UG course includes a mix of language development and academic skills training. You will focus on academic reading and writing, expanding your vocabulary and improving grammar accuracy for college-level work. You’ll also practice listening (for lectures) and speaking (for seminars and presentations) in realistic contexts, building the fluency and confidence needed for undergraduate study. In addition, daily academic skills sessions cover practical techniques like notetaking during lectures, referencing sources properly, critical reading of textbooks or journal articles, and giving presentations on academic topics. There is also structured independent study time each week, which allows you to apply what you’ve learned through homework, projects, or self-study assignments. The overall experience will provide a robust foundation for your first year of university.

Why choose this course?

What you'll learn: In the EAP+UG programme, you will substantially improve your academic English skills in all areas. For writing, you’ll learn how to produce well-structured essays and reports, including how to plan your ideas, develop arguments, and use proper academic style and citations. For reading, you’ll practice effective strategies (such as skimming, scanning, summarising, and critical reading) to tackle textbooks and research articles in English. In listening and speaking components, you will train to follow academic lectures and take useful notes, as well as speak up in tutorials and group discussions with confidence. The course places a strong emphasis on study skills: you’ll become proficient in note-taking techniques, learn how to manage your time and coursework, and understand how to reference sources to avoid plagiarism. All of these skills are taught in a supportive environment by experienced tutors who understand the needs of international students. By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate your ideas clearly in an academic setting and engage with course materials at an undergraduate level.

Outcomes & progression: On completing EAP+UG, you will receive an assessment record detailing your final grades and an EP certificate confirming that you have reached an academic English level equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or above. This means you’ll meet the English language entry requirements for most English-taught undergraduate programmes. More importantly, you will have gained a host of academic skills and familiarity with university-style learning. You’ll transition to your first year of university much more prepared – knowing how to take effective notes in lectures, how to participate in seminars, and how to approach assignments and exams. Many students who finish the EAP+UG course report feeling more confident and less overwhelmed when they begin their degree, because they have already practiced writing essays, giving presentations, and managing their study schedule during our programme. By having this strong foundation, you are likely to achieve better results in your undergraduate studies. Whether you progress to a degree in Business, Engineering, the Humanities, or any other field, the critical thinking, communication, and independent learning skills developed in EAP+UG will support your academic success. (Note: Some universities may still require an official English language test score for admission, so be sure to check the specific requirements of your chosen institution.)

Course Overview

The English for Academic Purposes + Postgraduate (EAP+PG) 12 Weeks course is tailored for students who plan to enter a master’s or other postgraduate degree taught in English. It focuses on equipping you with the advanced English language proficiency and academic skills required for success at the postgraduate level. This course covers both the theory and practice of academic research, with a strong emphasis on developing critical and analytical thinking, as well as effective communication skills for a graduate academic environment. You will also learn about the importance of independent learning and personal responsibility in postgraduate study, and you’ll complete a research project to prepare you for post graduate course study.
A typical day in the EAP+PG programme includes a structured blend of advanced English language development and academic skills training. In the language-focused sessions, you will work on Academic English skills – for instance, reading complex journal articles, writing research proposals or literature reviews, listening to lectures or talks relevant to your field, and speaking in academic discussions – all with an emphasis on vocabulary and styles used in postgraduate contexts. These sessions are led by experienced tutors who help you improve the clarity, accuracy, and fluency of your academic communication. In the academic skills sessions, you will focus on critical skills like advanced critical reading (e.g., how to critically evaluate sources), effective note-taking strategies for lengthy lectures, proper referencing and citation techniques, research methods (qualitative and quantitative basics), and presentation skills suitable for conferences or thesis defences. Independent study is a key component as well – you will be encouraged to apply what you learn by working on assignments and a research project outside of class. By the end of the 12 weeks, you will have mastered many of the activities that postgraduate students undertake, making you well-prepared to start your master’s program.

Why choose this course?

What you'll learn: The EAP+PG course will train you to use English effectively and confidently in a postgraduate academic setting. You will learn to engage critically with complex academic texts, employing advanced reading strategies to understand and synthesize information from research papers and books. In terms of writing, you’ll practice producing clear, coherent academic writing in the style required for postgraduate assignments – for example, you will work on writing well-structured research essays and reports, with proper academic conventions (hedging language, rigorous referencing, logical flow). You’ll also refine your speaking and presentation skills: by the end of the course, you should be able to participate confidently in seminars and group discussions, and deliver structured, professional presentations on academic topics (using visual aids where appropriate). A significant portion of the course is devoted to research skills: you will learn how to develop a research proposal, conduct literature reviews, and understand basic research methodology. By completing a mini research project, you’ll get hands-on experience in collecting data (or analysing existing data) and presenting well-reasoned conclusions based on evidence. Overall, the skills you acquire – from critical analysis and scholarly writing to effective communication and collaboration – will prepare you to excel in a postgraduate environment where such skills are paramount.

Outcomes & progression: Upon successful completion of EAP+PG, you will receive an assessment record and a certificate showing that you have achieved an English proficiency roughly equivalent to IELTS 6.5. This demonstrates that you meet the common language requirement for admission into many English-medium postgraduate programmes. Additionally, having gone through this course, you will have built a solid academic foundation for your future studies. You will likely find yourself better prepared for the rigors of a master’s or doctoral programme: for instance, writing a research paper or thesis proposal will be less daunting since you’ve practiced research and writing techniques during the course. You’ll also have greater confidence in your ability to engage with professors and peers – asking questions, giving presentations, and participating in debates – because of the communication practice gained. Many students use the EAP+PG course as a stepping stone into postgraduate studies in fields ranging from business and engineering to social sciences and humanities. By completing this programme, you not only fulfil a possible English entry condition but also prove to yourself and to your future university that you can handle the intellectual challenges of postgraduate work. In summary, you will progress to your master’s or PhD with enhanced language skills, sharper critical thinking, and a familiarity with academic research conventions that will set you up for success. (Note: Even with the EAP+PG certificate, some universities may require an official English test score like IELTS/TOEFL for final admission, so always check the specific requirements of your target programme.)
